The World Wildlife Fund managed Mai Po refuge at Deep Bay, in Hong Kong, is a wetland haven for thousands of migratory birds during autumn and winter. It sits right on the border with mainland China. Access is only granted if you are with a guide, with advanced reservations and the appropriate memberships. There are several hides or blinds for observing and photographing birds. We were guided by John Holmes of Walk Hong Kong and saw a total of 74 species, though not all were photographable....
